Silence…Is it Ever the Answer?

“It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it.”
― Maurice Switzer

I disagree with this thought completely. Yes there are times where it is better to remain silent but not speaking out because you fear being viewed as a fool is cowardly. Many thought innovators had the courage to speak their minds and accept the status of “fool” when they stumbled upon life-altering society-changing ideas. They weren’t afraid to challenge the status quo about the earth being flat, the existence of gravity, the workings of the human body, the earth being the center of the universe, even ideas on racial hierarchy. These “fools” spoke staunchly and carried their banners proudly until others started to question. They forced a paradigm shift because they couldn’t be silenced. So I say that “it is better to speak at the risk of being thought a fool, than to remain silent and prove it.”
